Since California became the first state to legalize the use of medicinal marijuana 21 years ago, January 1, 2018, California will become the last state in western China to legally buy cannabis for recreation.
California voters voted in No.64 referendum proposal in November 2016 to legalize recreational marijuana.
Under California's new law, people over the age of 21 can buy 28.5 grams (one ounce) of marijuana without a prescription, and six cannabis plants can be planted in the home.
People can not drink marijuana within 300 meters of public places and while driving, or close to schools and other places with children.
Cities like San Francisco and San Jose have licensed some retailers who can sell marijuana on Monday.
